Fillings
If you have caries (cavities) we treat this to prevent it from getting worse.
In case of caries or if a tooth is broken off, a dentist/mouth hygienist can restore it with a filling. To treat caries, we give an anaesthetic. For this, we use a very thin needle and low fluid pressure. After anaesthesia, the caries are removed until there is only healthy tooth tissue. Then the hole is filled with a white filling (composite) or grey filling (amalgam).
Ideally, we want you to avoid getting caries (cavities), so here are a few tips:
- Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride makes tooth enamel stronger. Fluoride also repairs incipient cavities.
- Chewing gum helps against cavities! As long as it is sugar-free gum. Chewing gum actually makes you produce more saliva.
- Try to eat and drink less than 7 times a day. This will give your saliva time to repair the decalcification and prevent erosion of tooth enamel.
